lyrics

She leans back in her chair,
her hair tied back so carelessly
Completely does not care
that he is off philandering.

For seventeen years he has lied.
Seventeen years now that she has cried for nothing.

She bleeds now in her chair,
her hands tied up so carefully.
Completely unaware
that he had the capacity.

For seventeen years he has tried.
Seventeen years now and she has died for nothing.

Their love was true,
but time made it strange.
They both grew cold
and wicked in their own ways.

She descends so gracefully
into the black river bed.
A speckled mind will never find
its peace with nowhere to rest its head.

Old man river, left knee shaking.
The dreary cows have gone and taken their seats.
While the trees have seen her ghost.
They're trembling pale, she wailed and moaned:

"I rose from the river
and I'll walk to your door.
You won't tell me no now,
you won't say I'm wrong.

This storm's been brewing
for quite some time,
and if you want a fight
I'll give you fight now."

For seventeen years they had tried.
Seventeen years now and they have died for each other.
For nothing.
